Paul Hegarty, a member of the National Pubwatch Committee, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list.
Paul Hegarty received the accolade in recognition of his work as a Trustee of the Licensed Trade Charity and his long-standing charitable service to the industry.
The Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) is presented to individuals who have achieved or delivered services with a significant and lasting impact.
Alongside his role at National Pubwatch, where he helps guide the organisation and brings his valuable communications expertise, Hegarty has enjoyed a distinguished career in the pub and brewing sector.
He served nine years as Honorary Secretary of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, offering support and guidance to the pub and brewing sector, as well as building strong ties with National Pubwatch before joining its committee.
His career also includes a senior role, as Head of Communications for Marston Coors. As a self-employed communications and pubic affairs consultant, his clients have included Drinkaware, the Proof of Age Scheme, the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, the Beer Academy and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)
Reflecting on the honour, Paul Hegarty said: “I was very surprised but enormously honoured to be offered this award. It is the icing on the cake of forty year’s working in our great industry. Pubs play such a positive role in communities across the UK. and this is richly illustrated by the tremendous work of organisations like National Pubwatch”.
