At its annual Pubwatch awards dinner, sponsored by JD Wetherspoon, National Pubwatch recognised the long standing commitment of two individuals and their contribution to partnership working and safety in the night time economy. Paul Wotton and Paul Hegarty were presented with the Award of Merit. The award recognises outstanding contribution to the success of Pubwatch at a National or local level.

In its 25th years, the National Pubwatch Committee recognises the contribution of one of its own long serving voluntary members to the success of the scheme and the safety people working and socialising in the night time economy.
Paul is former Police Inspector, having served in the Metropolitan Police for over thirty years. He joined the National Pubwatch Committee soon after its inception and has provided support and guidance as a regional representative to local schemes in the London area.
In 2012 Paul took over the important role of Honorary Secretary and since that time has provided valuable support to the National Pubwatch Committee.
The success of any voluntary organisation depends on the quality of its members. Paul does not seek public recognition but has provided over 25 years of selfless commitment to the pub and hospitality trade at a regional and national level.

The National Pubwatch Committee recognises the commitment of someone who has for many years promoted partnership working.
Paul’s career has included many years as an analytical services manager and over 9 years as Head of Communications for Marston Coors.
As a self-employed communications and public affairs consultant in the alcohol sector his clients included Drinkaware, the Proof of Age scheme, the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, the Beer Academy and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
For the last 9 years Paul has worked as the Honorary Secretary of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group.
During this time, he has generously provided his support and guidance to members of the Local Alcohol Partnership scheme and has been a trusted friend of National Pubwatch.
