18/3/18 Motherwell Police Station:

Two police officers within Lanarkshire Licensing Department were recognised for their outstanding commitment with National Pubwatch ‘Star Awards’. The Star Awards were introduced to allow NPW Regional Representatives to nominate people who they feel have gone the extra mile in supporting local Pubwatch schemes and their efforts to create safer drinking environments.

Police Scotland officers Susan Brown and Joe Hunter have worked tirelessly to grow the Pubwatch schemes across Lanarkshire and were presented their certificates by their Superintendent Gavin Russell.

Superintendent Russell said “I am delighted for Joe and Susan that they have been recognised by National Pubwatch and awarded this commendation. Both officers work tirelessly to strengthen effective partnerships with the licensed trade throughout Lanarkshire and have built very effective working relationships with licensees to reduce crime and vulnerability. A very well-deserved award which could not have been achieved without partners participating fully in the Pubwatch scheme.”

Joe Hunter Said “It’s fantastic and totally unexpected to be recognised for the work we’ve done to support existing schemes and to help grow new Pubwatch schemes across Lanarkshire. There are now 12 Pubwatch schemes across Lanarkshire with approximately 190 premises involved and this could not have been done without the commitment and support of licensees and their staff who work fantastically with ourselves”

Susan Brown said “We both enjoy working with the licensed trade and believe that it is vital that we support each scheme by attending pub watch meetings. The work which we carry out in partnership with the licensees makes a significant contribution to the reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour in the night time economy in our area which in turn keeps customers, staff and premises safe.”

Stewart Fotheringham NPW Scotland Regional Representative said “I was delighted to nominate Joe and Susan for STAR Awards. They’re both very passionate about promoting safe drinking environments through Pubwatch and have also been instrumental in encouraging some premises to take part in the Best Bar None Awards as well, with some going forward to the National Finals this week”.
