Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones hosted her annual awards ceremony to recognise and thank individuals and organisations for their exceptional service and commitment at a glittering ceremony in Winchester. This year’s Awards were dedicated to recognising those who have helped make communities safer and that have improved the lives of others.
This was the 1st year that Eastleigh BID had been nominated in the awards. The Eastleigh BID Crime Prevention Team and Rich Moody, Crime Reduction Co-ordinator were nominated in the ‘Business Crime Prevention Award’ category.
Rich has become a great asset to the Eastleigh BID team in his role as Crime Reduction Co-ordinator since retiring from Hampshire Constabulary in 2021. Along with unrivalled knowledge of the local area and community, Rich gained vast experience in many roles within the police including Community Safety Officer. Rich is heavily involved with the Eastleigh Pubwatch scheme and has been instrumental in the scheme becoming a valuable tool for the licensed premises of Eastleigh. Monthly meetings and engagement have improved significantly with the input of Rich and the introduction of guest speakers, increased communication, and initiatives for crime reduction in Eastleigh.
Rich and the Eastleigh Town Centre Rangers have also spearheaded an increased usage of DISC by over 150%, a reduction in crime rates and an increase in successful prosecutions.
Due to the significant success of the team, the winner of the Business Crime Prevention Award for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight was announced as Eastleigh BID – Crime Prevention Team!
Teresa Swann, Eastleigh BID Manager commented that “The Eastleigh BID Directors and I are incredibly proud of our team for winning the Business Crime Prevention Award!
