Simon Hatfield is awarded the National Pubwatch Bravery & Meritorious Conduct Award for saving the life of a customer who had suffered a cardiac arrest.
In September 2025, Colin Gardner was enjoying a drink in the Nuthatch bar, Middlesbrough with his family when he suffered a cardiac arrest and stopped breathing.
Colin had been in hospital after having a heart attack some weeks prior to this incident.
While his panic-stricken loved ones shouted for help and began dialling 999, licensee Simon sprang into action and started to administer CPR and managed to get him breathing again before the ambulance arrived.
Colin’s daughter stated that Simon ’Was just phenomenal. My dad would have died if it hadn’t been for him; he saved his life’.
