James Peggie is awarded the National Pubwatch Bravery & Good Conduct Award for his actions in preventing a young man from taking his own life
The incident, unfolded outside Montagues bar on Kirkcaldy’s High Street, on New Years Eve when doorman James was on duty when he noticed a young person in visible distress.
After speaking with the teenager, James realised the gravity of the situation: the teen openly stated he planned to enter the sea to end his life.
Without hesitation, the experienced doorman moved to safeguard the individual, ensuring he could not wander off alone.
James immediately contacted the emergency services, but was informed of a significant wait time for an ambulance to attend.
Refusing to leave the vulnerable young person without help, James completed his duties for the night before taking further action. Alongside a colleague from the Montagues door team, he personally transported the teenager to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, ensuring he was safely handed into the care of medical staff.
It is understood that the young person is now receiving the support he needs.
Locals have praised the doormen for their compassion, quick thinking, and refusal to walk away from someone in crisis on one of the busiest nights of the year.
