Sergeant David Moore of Devon and Cornwall Police is awarded the Malcolm Eidmans Award for his commitment to partnership working and efforts to make Plymouths evening and night time economy safer.
He was nominated for the award by Richard Smith, long-time Chairman of Plymouth Pubwatch, who stated that over the last five years David had demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting the pub and hospitality trade. He highlighted the role that David has played in creating a trusting working relationship with the Police; as well as his willingness to develop and support other local schemes such as Best Bar None. He is also credited for his innovation in tackling alcohol and drug related crime; such as his approach to drink spiking in 2019 which saw the introduction of drink spiking kits being trialled in Plymouths clubs and bars.
The nomination was supported by Tony Merrick of City Security and Tony Lethbridge of Bridgegate Security. Both praised Davids great ‘team-work’ as well as acknowledging his efforts to support their work through training and a range of specific initiatives.
Chief Superintendent Matthew Longman stated:
“Dave has been the mainstay of our police licensing in Plymouth for some time and has forged strong links with all the key people in the city. His constant enthusiasm and motivation to do the best he can in this important area of work has led to consistent improvements, innovation and ultimately a safer city. He has played a part in widening our partnerships including one of the most productive police/football club licensing relationships I’ve ever seen with Argyle. He has also championed and developed the drink spiking agenda, particularly in some of the kit and practices that were once innovative, but are now part of everyday business for my officers.
Dave is a people person, and this is what makes things happen. Whenever I present at the Best Bar None awards, or I’m at some other event, you can’t help notice that Dave knows everyone from volunteers to door staff, street pastors, to licensees. He holds the respect of all of them and balances being firm when he needs to be, but approachable throughout. He’s a top guy and I think that is his biggest achievement of all.
He is thoroughly deserving in any recognition of this role, because he has gone the extra mile at every opportunity”.
