Callum Jameson and Ewelina Fesnak are awarded the Bravery & Meritorious Conduct Award for their actions to protect a vulnerable female.
On 17 February 2026, a 64 yrs old female, who suffers from mental health problems left her home in Windsor to visit someone in the Croxford area of Southampton. She had never visited the friend before and had no confirmation that the person was still at the address and hadn’t spoken to the person for several years,
She had purchased a one-way rail ticket to Southampton. Having arrived safely enough she then took a taxi from the station, thinking that the taxi driver would know where the address was. She did not have a mobile phone and had no contact details for the friend other than the address which the driver was unfamiliar with.
She alighted from the taxi near to the Dog and Duck pub. She was anxious and confused in an unknown area. She had not even dressed appropriately, with any sort of suitable outdoor clothing. Shortly after the pub opened at 4 p.m. she entered the venue, seeking sanctuary.
The licensee’s Calum and Ewelina realised that she was in trouble and needed assistance. They sat her down with a blanket and heater inside the pub and gave her hot drinks and a hot meal.
They talked to her constantly, giving her reassurance. After some prompting, she provided her brother’s mobile phone number and Callum was able to make contact. They eventually managed to secure an ambulance which did not arrive until well after midnight. She was taken to Southampton Hospital and later transferred to a specialist Mental Health hospital in Reading.
The females brother nominated Callum and Ewelina for this award. He praised their compassion and stated that the outcome might have had a very different scenario had it not been for their intervention.
