Barry Gardiner MP meets Jean-Luc Julienne
Barry Gardiner MP for Brent North gave his thanks to local licensee Jean-Luc Julienne, a bar team leader at JJ Moons, Wembley for his heroic actions that saw him receive a National Pubwatch Bravery & Meritorious Conduct Award.
The National Pubwatch award was presented to Jean-Luc at their annual conference in Sheffield on 5 March this year. He received the award in recognition for his bravery and selfless commitment, without thought to his own safety, by saving the life of a customer who had been seriously injured in a knife attack.
On 13 February 2023, a customer at the Wetherspoons pub JJ Moons in Wembley High Street was attacked at the front of the venue, after stepping out to talk to a person who he thought was a friend. His attacker without provocation, lunged at the victim’s neck with a knife, causing a serious stab wound before making his escape.
The victim managed to stagger back into the venue, bleeding profusely from the wound in his neck. CCTV of the incident clearly showed Jean-Luc racing to his aid, instructing staff to secure the doors, call for an ambulance and move other customers away to a safe location – all whilst applying firm pressure to the wound in the victim’s neck.
The incident was dealt with by the police as a case of attempted murder. Police Constable John Inglesant of the Metropolitan Police Wembley Town Centre Team stated that it was the clear opinion of all first responders involved in the incident that the victim would not have survived if it hadn’t been for Jean-Luc’s professional and quick action.
He said: “In my opinion Jean-Luc went above and beyond the call of duty, taking swift action to risk assess the situation and putting himself into a dangerous situation in order to prevent harm and save life. I firmly believe that his actions deserve to be praised and recognised at the highest level.
As well as praising Jean-Luc for his actions, Robin Gardiner also recognised National Pubwatch for celebrating stories which highlight good governance and the partnership work between Police and pub trade.
