The moment someone has a cardiac arrest, the clock starts ticking. Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chances of survival.
But many defibrillators are never used because emergency services don’t know where they are or how they can access them.
National Pubwatch is aware that many Pubwatch schemes and individual pubs have generously raised funds for the purchase and installation of defibrillator machines. These machines are an important community resource.
The British Heart Foundation says that:
- Tens of thousands of defibrillators are currently not known by ambulance services
- Currently less than 5% of out-of-hospital-cardiac arrests (OHCAs) receive bystander defibrillation
- Defibrillators are much more likely to be used if they’re registered
- Knowing a defibrillators location can be the difference between life and death
The Circuit – the national defibrillator network, connects defibrillators to NHS Ambulance Services across the UK so that in the crucial moments after a cardiac arrest, they can be accessed quickly to help save lives.
We urge everyone who has a defibrillator on their premises to urgently register now.
