For the third year running West Herts College students have created innovative posters to encourage responsible behaviour in Watford’s bars and clubs.
As part of an innovative project run in partnership with police, the college and Oceana, the students from the college’s arts and graphics courses have created posters and radio adverts to catch the attention of young clubbers in Watford with essential crime prevention messages.
The project was developed by Sergeant Simon Mason and PC Daniel John from the Watford Central Neighbourhood Team and is sponsored by drinks company Diageo. The students’ work was exhibited at an awards evening at Oceana on Friday, April 24. They were presented with a certificate and gift vouchers, which were funded by Diageo, in front of their families. A number of the posters will be used in the town’s drinking establishments, and the work will be assessed as part of the student’s BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 in Art and Design.
Chief Inspector for Watford Dave Wheatley said: “This is the third year the project has taken place and it is going from strength to strength. “The idea behind this is for young people to create designs which would appeal to their own peer group and encourage them to think about their safety. “Creating the safe and vibrant town we have now is through a strong partnership approach with partner organisations, local councillors and a progressive Pub Watch scheme. I consider the college and these students part of that.
“Thanks to Diageo for their renewed support and to the students for creating such fantastic work.”
