NEWQUAY police have handed over four giant containers packed with groceries to the local food bank following an appeal to pubs, clubs and restaurants in the town to support Food bank Friday.
Working in partnership with Newquay food bank and Newquay Pubwatch, officers called in to seven licensed premises to collect donations from staff and customers. The businesses which took part were Bar Help, Bank Street Bar and Grill, the Sailors Arms, Walkabout, the Bullpit Smokehouse and Bar, Chy Bar and Kitchen and the Cribbar.
A spokesperson for Newquay food bank said: The event ‘Food bank Friday’ has not only gathered food for which we are very grateful, but has raised the profile of Newquay Food bank across our town and much wider due to the media coverage. This will help with food donations throughout the year and will have increased the profile of the work of Newquay Food bank. We hope that people who need our help will now know of our service.
Newquay inspector Dave Meredith said he was delighted by the success of the recent appeal. I am very pleased with the success of Food bank Friday. It was a great example of partnership work between the police, Newquay food bank and Newquay Pubwatch, he said. The food collected really does make a difference to peoples lives and I am delighted to see Newquay Food bank receiving such support from the community. Newquay police gave out 72 food bank vouchers to those in need in our local community last year. We intend to continue our close relationship with the food bank this year.
