We know that the vast majority of people who socialise in the night-time economy are hugely grateful to the service that pubs and bars provide at this time of year. However, there is always a small minority of people, who do not seem to understand social norms and are prepared to treat licensed premises and the people who work in them with disrespect and contempt.
It takes only one violent or anti-social incident to damage a venues reputation and even put their premises license in jeopardy. So, we fully support a pubwatch members right to exclude problem individuals from their town centres. That will not only affect the problem individual’s ability to socialise during the festive period, but for many months to come.
But it needn’t get to this situation – as long as people drink responsibly, treat people with respect and think before they act. As the Christmas song goes – ‘so be good, for goodness sake!”
