28/2/25: National Pubwatch Regional Representative Trevor Pepper attended a retirement function for Derby City Health & Safety/Licensing Officer Ann Walker.
At the event Trevor presented NPW Star Awards to Ann and ex-police colleague Mark Dunn for services to Derby City Pubwatch.
Ann Walker’s distinguished career with Derby City Council has spanned an impressive 32 years, during which time she has demonstrated unwavering support for Derby City Pubwatch in her role as a Health and Safety/Licensing Officer. Her dedication and commitment to the Pubwatch scheme have been exceptional, yielding significant benefits for its members as well as the wider community.
Ann’s advice and support have proven invaluable to the members of the Pubwatch scheme. Her calm and approachable manner has endeared her to licensees throughout the city, establishing her as a trusted and respected figure within the community. Her extensive knowledge and expertise in health and safety regulations have greatly assisted numerous premises licence holders over the years, ensuring compliance and fostering a safer environment for all. Ann’s positive attitude and willingness to help have made her an indispensable asset, not only to Pubwatch members but also to the wider community she has diligently served.
Ann’s contributions to Derby City Pubwatch extend far beyond her immediate responsibilities. Her efforts have significantly strengthened the scheme, helping to enhance its effectiveness and ensuring its continued success. Mark joined the Derbyshire Police Service in February 1996, embarking on a distinguished career in various roles until his retirement in February 2021. His tenure included 16 years of dedicated service as a police licensing enforcement officer, where he worked extensively with the Licensing Act 2003 since its inception in November 2005.
Mark was instrumental in setting up and supporting numerous Pubwatch schemes in areas such as Erewash, Amber Valley, South Derbyshire, and Derby City. In 2010, he was transferred to St Mary’s Wharf police station, where he began working with the local Licensing department to oversee all licensing-related matters in the city. Mark quickly became actively involved with Derby City Pubwatch and established himself as an integral part of the Pubwatch team. His proactive approach and commitment to transforming the licensing landscape within the city earned the trust and respect of key figures such as David Laylor, the then Chairperson, and Jason Dickins, the Deputy Chairperson.
His dedication and passion for the licensing objectives have left a lasting impact on Derby City Pubwatch and the broader community.
During his time with Derbyshire Constabulary Mark has demonstrated unwavering dedication as a licensing officer, tirelessly working to promote the licensing objectives and ensuring that all Pubwatch members had a reliable point of contact within the police service. His commitment to fostering strong relationships and providing consistent support has made a significant impact on the community, offering members a sense of security and trust.
Upon retiring from the police, Mark channelled his extensive experience and passion into establishing his own licensing consultancy business. Despite his new venture, he continues to selflessly devote his time and expertise to Derby City Pubwatch members. His guidance and support are deeply appreciated, as he shares his wealth of knowledge and experience to help the community thrive.
In recognition of his invaluable contributions, Mark has been appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of Derby City Pubwatch. His leadership and commitment to the cause have inspired others, and his efforts have been instrumental in ensuring the success and growth of the initiative
